Swarthoek Trails offer the nature lover a true bushveld experience, with 4×4, walking, canoe or mountain bike trails. The farm is situated 70 km from Brits, on the R511 to Thabazimbi.

There are four 4×4 trails (grading 2-3), and the trails and camps are eco friendly, developed in line with a development plan compiled by the Centre for Eco Tourism.  

Swarthoek Trails Hiking Trails:

• Rooisloot Route – grading 2, distance 6 km, time 45 minutes, 4×4 or 2×4 raised body with difflock, Mountain terrain, rocky, slopes, ravines; Red bush- and Murula veld, savanna, lookout points.
• Mountain Route – grading 2-3, distance 12 km, time 1½ hours, 4×4 or 2×4 (raised body) with difflock, Mountain terrain, rocky; tambotie ravines; through old open quarry iron mine; lookout points; cable track station; slopes. 
• River Route North – grading 2-3, distance 7 km, time 1¾ hours, 4×4, River woods terrain; picnic spots; slopes; river crossings; no rock; turf and sand; inaccessible when very wet. 
• River Route South – grading 2-4 (with escape routes), distance 7 km, time 1¾ hours, 4×4 or 2×4 (raised body) with difflock, River woods terrain; picnic spots; slopes; obstacle course; no rock; turf and sand; inaccessible when very wet.
• Canoe Route & Hiking Trails.
